Company intelligence / Profile preview
Alucent Biomedical is developing the Natural Vascular Scaffolding (AlucentNVS) technology, a novel drug-device combination that uses a photoactivatable small molecule delivered via a balloon catheter and activated by light to crosslink structural proteins in blood vessels. This approach aims to maintain vessel patency without permanent implants. The company has received FDA IDE approval and is conducting feasibility trials for peripheral artery disease and arteriovenous fistula maturation. Early clinical data suggest improved rates of AVF maturation and faster readiness for dialysis compared to standard care, with all treated patients able to undergo dialysis through the treated fistulas so far.
