AMC-NATEC

The National AIDS Therapy Evaluation Center (NATEC) was a prominent clinical research organization based at the Academic Medical Center (AMC) in Amsterdam, specializing in the evaluation of therapies for HIV/AIDS. Founded in 1990 by Professor Joep Lange, NATEC established a national network of clinical trial sites in the Netherlands and became a key partner in international research collaborations, including the HIV Netherlands-Australia-Thailand Research Collaboration (HIV-NAT). The center provided essential infrastructure for multi-center clinical trials, including statistical analysis and data management services, and was instrumental in the early development and implementation of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). Following the merger of AMC and VUmc into Amsterdam UMC, its activities have been integrated into the broader infectious disease research departments and the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD).
