Company intelligence / Profile preview
American Medical Instruments Holdings (AMIH) was a leading manufacturer of specialty, single-use medical devices, established in 2003 by the private equity firm RoundTable Healthcare Partners. The company was formed through the consolidation of several independent medical device manufacturers and operated via two primary business units: Inter-V and Surgical Specialties. Inter-V focused on interventional radiology, urology, and vascular access products, while Surgical Specialties specialized in ophthalmic devices and wound closure technologies. In 2006, AMIH was acquired by Angiotech Pharmaceuticals for approximately $785 million, a move intended to diversify Angiotech's revenue and provide it with global manufacturing and sales capabilities. Following the acquisition, the company's divisions were integrated into Angiotech's operations before being eventually divested to other entities like Argon Medical Devices. During its peak, AMIH employed over 1,400 people across multiple international manufacturing facilities.
