Company intelligence / Profile preview
American Medical Security (AMS) was a leading health insurance company that specialized in providing health benefit plans to small businesses and individuals across the United States. Based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the company offered a range of products including PPO, POS, and indemnity plans, often bundled with life and disability insurance. AMS distinguished itself through its focus on the small-group market and its proprietary technology platforms designed to simplify the insurance application and underwriting process. The company operated as a publicly traded entity on the New York Stock Exchange before being acquired by UnitedHealth Group in 2005 for approximately $190 million. Following the acquisition, its operations were integrated into UnitedHealthcare, and the AMS brand was eventually retired.
