American Microwave Technology (AMT) was a specialized engineering firm that designed and manufactured high-power radio frequency (RF) and microwave amplifiers for the medical and telecommunications sectors. In the healthcare industry, the company was a premier supplier of power amplifiers for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems and hyperthermia devices used in cancer treatment. Their technology was essential for generating the high-energy fields required for diagnostic imaging and therapeutic tissue heating. AMT's products were utilized by major medical imaging OEMs to enhance the performance of 1.5T and 3T MRI scanners. The company was acquired by Powerwave Technologies in 1999, and its medical business unit was eventually divested to Analogic Corporation in 2006.
