Amfac Health Care was a prominent American pharmaceutical wholesaler and distributor that operated as a major player in the U.S. healthcare supply chain during the 1970s and 1980s. Originally a division of the diversified Hawaiian conglomerate Amfac, Inc., the company was headquartered in Folsom, California, and grew to become the sixth-largest drug distributor in the nation, serving over 11,000 pharmacies and hospitals across 37 states. In 1988, following a corporate restructuring of its parent company, the healthcare division was sold in a management-led buyout to form MWC, Inc., which continued to trade under the Amfac Health Care name and expanded by acquiring Northwestern Drug in 1989. The company's U.S. operations were eventually acquired by McKesson Corporation in 1994, while its dominant Australian pharmacy software subsidiary, Amfac-Chemdata, was sold to IMS Health (now IQVIA) during the same period.
