Ammuneos

Ammuneos is a pre-clinical stage biotechnology company dedicated to developing next-generation, tumor-microenvironment-activated cytokine therapies. Spun out of the University of Chicago, the company leverages a proprietary masking technology to engineer cytokines that remain inactive in systemic circulation, thereby minimizing systemic toxicity. These "masked" cytokines are designed to be selectively activated by proteases specifically found within the tumor microenvironment, ensuring potent local immune stimulation. The company's lead programs include masked versions of Interleukin-12 (IL-12) and Interleukin-2 (IL-2). In July 2024, Ammuneos was acquired by Boehringer Ingelheim to enhance its immuno-oncology portfolio and advance localized cytokine delivery. This acquisition underscores the potential of Ammuneos' platform to transform the safety and efficacy profile of cytokine-based cancer treatments.
