Company intelligence / Profile preview
Amoco, originally the American Oil Company, was a major global chemical and oil enterprise that operated for over a century before its merger with BP. While primarily known for its energy and petroleum products, the company maintained a significant chemical division that produced precursors for various industrial applications, including some used in the broader life sciences and materials sectors. In 1998, Amoco merged with British Petroleum (BP) in what was then the largest industrial merger in history. Following the merger, most Amoco-branded operations were integrated into BP's global infrastructure. The company is no longer an independent entity in the healthcare or biotechnology space.
