Company intelligence / Profile preview
American Medical Systems (AMS) was a leading medical technology company specializing in the development and manufacture of devices for pelvic health and urological disorders. Founded in 1972, the company became a pioneer in treating conditions such as erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, and benign prostatic hyperplasia through innovative surgical implants and laser systems. AMS was acquired by Endo International in 2011 for approximately $2.9 billion to expand its healthcare portfolio. In 2015, the Men's Health and Prostate Health businesses were sold to Boston Scientific for $1.6 billion, while the Women's Health division was transitioned to Astora Women's Health and eventually wound down due to extensive litigation regarding pelvic mesh products.
