Company intelligence / Profile preview
Amylin Pharmaceuticals developed and commercialized several first-in-class therapies for diabetes and metabolic disorders. Its lead products included pramlintide (Symlin) and exenatide-based drugs (Byetta and Bydureon). These drugs were approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes; Symlin was also approved for type 1 diabetes as an adjunct to insulin. Byetta was the first GLP‑1 agonist approved in the US. At acquisition in 2012 by Bristol Myers Squibb (and subsequently AstraZeneca), these products were on market with established efficacy in glycemic control.
