Anamis Therapeutics was a South San Francisco-based biotechnology company focused on the discovery and development of small molecule drugs targeting proteases. The company's primary research centered on cysteine proteases, specifically targeting Cathepsin S and Cathepsin K for the treatment of inflammatory, autoimmune, and bone-related diseases. Anamis developed a proprietary platform for identifying highly selective inhibitors, leading to a pipeline of candidates for indications such as rheumatoid arthritis and neuropathic pain. In 2008, the company was acquired by the Swedish pharmaceutical firm Medivir AB to bolster its protease inhibitor portfolio and establish a research presence in the United States.
