Company intelligence / Profile preview
Anchor Biologics is a pre-clinical stage biotechnology company co-founded by University of Florida researchers Dr. Benjamin Keselowsky and Dr. Gregory Hudalla. The company is developing a novel biomaterial platform called GATER (Galectin Anchors for Therapeutic Enzyme Retention) to treat chronic inflammatory diseases. GATER works by fusing therapeutic enzymes, such as indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO), to galectin-3, which binds to extracellular glycans and anchors the therapeutic locally at the injection site. This localized approach extends the drug's residence time in tissues (such as joints or mucosal surfaces) for up to a week, preventing systemic clearance and avoiding off-target side effects. The company's lead program, IDO-Gal3 (IDO-GATER), has demonstrated efficacy in pre-clinical rodent models of osteoarthritis, periodontal disease, psoriasis, and endotoxin-induced inflammation.
