Company intelligence / Profile preview
Angelini Labopharm was a joint venture established in 2009 between the Italian pharmaceutical group Angelini and the Canadian specialty company Labopharm. The entity was specifically created to manage the regulatory approval and commercial launch of Oleptro, a once-daily controlled-release formulation of trazodone, in the United States. The product utilized Labopharm's proprietary Contramid technology to provide a distinct pharmacokinetic profile intended to improve tolerability and patient compliance in the treatment of major depressive disorder. In July 2011, Angelini acquired Labopharm's 50% stake in the venture for $26 million, gaining full control of the US operations. Following this acquisition, the joint venture was integrated into Angelini's broader corporate structure as it established its own US subsidiary, Angelini Pharma Inc.
