Angiogen

Angiogen was a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing novel anti-angiogenic therapies for the treatment of solid and vascular tumors. The company's lead technology, known as the "Angiostatic Cocktail," involved a combination of a plasminogen activator (such as urokinase) and a free sulfhydryl donor to generate Angiostatin 4.5 in vivo. This proprietary approach aimed to destroy tumor-specific blood vessels, effectively starving cancer cells of necessary nutrients and oxygen. Angiogen partnered with Microbix Biosystems in 2006 to commercialize this technology, particularly for metastatic prostate and colon cancers. While the company conducted early-phase clinical research, it is no longer actively operating as an independent entity.
