Company intelligence / Profile preview
Angiosyn was a California-based biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of novel angiostatic agents for ophthalmic diseases. The company's core technology involved a unique class of angiostatic steroids that inhibited pathological blood vessel growth, a key driver in conditions like "wet" age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Unlike traditional steroids, these compounds were designed to lack glucocorticoid activity, potentially avoiding common side effects such as increased intraocular pressure. In January 2005, Pfizer acquired Angiosyn in a deal valued at up to $527 million to strengthen its position in the ophthalmology market. The acquisition provided Pfizer with Angiosyn's lead clinical candidate and its underlying intellectual property regarding angiogenesis inhibition.
