Company intelligence / Profile preview
Animas Technologies, a subsidiary of Animas Corporation and Johnson & Johnson, was a medical device company focused on the development and manufacture of insulin delivery systems and glucose monitoring technologies. The company was a significant competitor in the diabetes care market, known for its innovative insulin pumps such as the Animas Vibe and OneTouch Ping, which integrated continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) capabilities. In 2005, Animas Technologies acquired the assets of Cygnus, Inc., including the GlucoWatch Biographer, a pioneering non-invasive glucose monitoring device. Following its acquisition by Johnson & Johnson in 2006, the company continued to expand its product portfolio and global reach. However, citing increased competitive pressures and changing market dynamics, Johnson & Johnson announced in 2017 that it would close Animas and exit the insulin pump market. The company subsequently transitioned its patient base to Medtronic and ceased all manufacturing and sales operations.
