Anrad Corporation was a specialized medical technology firm focused on the development of advanced digital X-ray detectors. Based in Montreal, Canada, the company pioneered the use of amorphous selenium (a-Se) for direct-conversion imaging, a technology that provides superior clarity and resolution for medical diagnostics. Their primary applications included digital mammography, where high-precision imaging is critical for early cancer detection, and general radiography. Anrad operated as a joint venture between Noranda Inc. and the Quebec government before being acquired by Analogic Corporation in 2003. Following the acquisition, Anrad's technology became a cornerstone of Analogic's digital radiography business unit. The company's innovations significantly contributed to the industry's transition from film-based to digital medical imaging.
