Company intelligence / Profile preview
Anvil Biosciences was a specialized biotechnology company focused on the development of next-generation CRISPR genome editing technologies. Operating in the San Francisco Bay Area, the company concentrated on engineering novel CRISPR enzymes with improved characteristics for therapeutic use, such as smaller size and increased specificity. In 2020, Anvil Biosciences was acquired by Scribe Therapeutics, a genetic medicine company co-founded by Nobel laureate Jennifer Doudna. This acquisition was a strategic move by Scribe to consolidate intellectual property and technical expertise related to CasX-based editing, also known as X-Editing. The integration of Anvil's technology has since supported Scribe's efforts to develop highly efficient, permanent treatments for a variety of genetic and neurodegenerative diseases.
