Overview

Applied Immune Sciences (AIS) was a pioneering biotechnology company focused on the development of ex vivo cell therapy and cell processing technologies. The company's core platform was the AIS Cellector, a proprietary device designed to isolate, concentrate, and activate specific cell populations for therapeutic re-infusion. AIS targeted a variety of high-need areas, including bone marrow transplantation, oncology, and infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS. Its technology enabled the selection of CD34+ stem cells for autologous transplants and the expansion of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes. In 1995, the company was acquired by Rhone-Poulenc Rorer to serve as the foundation for its cell and gene therapy operations. AIS is recognized as an early leader in the transition of cell therapy from academic research to industrial-scale clinical application.
