Company intelligence / Profile preview
Applied Molecular Evolution (AME) was a biotechnology company that pioneered the use of directed evolution to optimize protein and antibody therapeutics. The company's proprietary AMEsystem platform allowed for the rapid improvement of a drug's binding affinity, stability, and manufacturing efficiency by mimicking the natural process of selection. AME was acquired by Eli Lilly in 2004 for approximately $400 million to serve as a core component of Lilly's biologics strategy. Following the acquisition, AME's San Diego facility became a key site for Lilly's antibody discovery and optimization efforts.
