Applied Research Institute leads Heartland BioWorks, a federally designated Regional Tech Hub focused on transforming Central Indiana into a global leader in biotechnology and biomanufacturing. The initiative aims to strengthen the U.S. supply chain for life-saving medicines by supporting workforce development, startup incubation, advanced manufacturing infrastructure, and regional collaboration among industry leaders such as Eli Lilly, Corteva, Elanco, Purdue University, and others[1][5][6][8][9]. In July 2024 it was awarded approximately $51 million in federal funding to implement projects that include building new facilities (BioWorks HQ), expanding training programs with local universities, providing resources for early-stage innovators to scale up production domestically[6].
