Company intelligence / Profile preview
Aptuscan was a Swedish biotechnology company specializing in the design and engineering of novel protein-based affinity reagents. Founded as a spin-off from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, the company developed a proprietary protein scaffold platform to generate high-affinity binders for research, diagnostic, and therapeutic applications. Its core technology enabled the rapid selection of stable, small proteins with antibody-like binding properties, often referred to as Aptubodies. In December 2004, Aptuscan was acquired by Affibody AB, a move that consolidated the Swedish protein engineering landscape and integrated Aptuscan's library technologies into Affibody's broader development programs. The acquisition was strategically designed to strengthen Affibody's intellectual property portfolio and expand its capabilities in creating engineered affinity proteins.
