Company intelligence / Profile preview
Aquacarotene was an Australian biotechnology company specializing in the production of natural beta-carotene from the microalgae Dunaliella salina. Based in Western Australia, the company utilized extensive hypersaline pond systems in Karratha to cultivate algae under high-intensity sunlight. The harvested beta-carotene was processed for use as a natural colorant and nutritional supplement in the global food and healthcare markets. The company was one of the few global producers of high-concentration natural carotenoids during its peak operations. Despite its pioneering role in Australian algal biotechnology, the company eventually transitioned its business focus to the resources sector, changing its name to MCB Resources in 2011.
