Company intelligence / Profile preview
Aranex Biotech was an early-stage agricultural biotechnology company focused on developing hypoallergenic peanuts to address the global epidemic of peanut allergies. Founded in 2015 by Chloe Gui and Terry Huang, the company utilized CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing technology to precisely target and turn off the genes encoding major peanut allergens, such as Ara h 1, Ara h 2, and Ara h 3. By eliminating these immunogenic proteins at the genomic level, Aranex aimed to produce a safe, allergen-free peanut crop that could prevent life-threatening anaphylactic reactions. The company participated in the IndieBio EU synthetic biology accelerator in Cork, Ireland, but was ultimately deadpooled and went out of business around 2019.
