Arbios Systems

Arbios Systems was a clinical-stage medical technology company focused on developing extracorporeal liver support systems for patients with acute liver failure. The company's lead product, the SEPET Liver Support System, was a specialized blood purification device designed to remove liver-specific toxins and inflammatory mediators from the blood. Additionally, Arbios developed the Hepatix system, a bioartificial liver that utilized living hepatocytes to provide essential metabolic functions. Despite advancing SEPET into Phase 2 clinical trials, the company faced significant funding challenges during the 2008 financial crisis. Arbios Systems ultimately ceased operations and underwent liquidation in early 2009.
