Arch Development

ARCH Development Corporation was a pioneering technology transfer and venture creation entity established in 1986 by the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory. It served as a foundational model for university-based commercialization, bridging the gap between academic research and industrial application to launch numerous high-growth companies. Most notably, the corporation was the progenitor of ARCH Venture Partners, which spun out in 1992 to become one of the world's leading venture capital firms in the life sciences. ARCH Development Corporation successfully managed a vast portfolio of intellectual property, licensing technologies that led to the creation of companies such as Martek Biosciences and Everypath. Its functions have since been integrated into the University of Chicago's Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
