Arctos Medical developed a preclinical-stage, adeno-associated virus-based gene therapy that delivers proprietary light-sensitive genes (“optogenes”) to specific retinal cells. This approach aims to convert these targeted cells into replacement photoreceptors, potentially restoring sight in patients with inherited or acquired blindness due to photoreceptor loss. Unlike traditional gene therapies that correct single-gene defects, this technology could address multiple forms of IRD regardless of the causative mutation. No clinical results have been reported as the program was preclinical at acquisition.
