Arcturus BioScience

Arcturus BioScience was a pioneer in the field of microgenomics, specializing in Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM) technology. Founded in 1996, the company developed integrated systems, including the PixCell and AutoPix instruments, which allowed researchers to isolate specific cells from tissue sections for precise molecular analysis. Their technology was instrumental in advancing cancer research and pathology by enabling the study of gene expression in pure cell populations. Arcturus was acquired by Molecular Devices in 2006 for $10 million, and its product lines were later integrated into Life Technologies. Today, the Arcturus brand and its LCM technologies are part of Thermo Fisher Scientific's portfolio. The company is often distinguished from the newer, mRNA-focused Arcturus Therapeutics.
