arGentis Pharmaceuticals was a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing treatments for autoimmune and orphan diseases, specifically systemic sclerosis (scleroderma). The company's lead product candidate, ARG201, was an oral bovine type I collagen therapy designed to induce immunological tolerance and mitigate the progression of skin and lung fibrosis. In June 2015, arGentis was acquired by Abeona Therapeutics (formerly PlasmaTech Biopharmaceuticals) in an all-stock transaction. This acquisition allowed Abeona to expand its focus on rare diseases by incorporating arGentis's Phase 2-ready scleroderma program into its pipeline. The company's research originated from collaborations with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and the VA Medical Center in Memphis.
