Arryx

Arryx was a life sciences technology company that pioneered the commercialization of holographic optical trapping (HOT) systems. The company's technology utilized laser light to create hundreds of independent "optical tweezers," allowing for the simultaneous, non-contact manipulation of microscopic particles and biological cells in three dimensions. Their primary product, the BioRyx 200, was designed for researchers in drug discovery and cell biology to perform complex micro-manipulations and cell sorting. Founded in 2000 as a spin-out from the University of Chicago, Arryx was eventually acquired by Haemonetics Corporation in 2006. The acquisition aimed to integrate Arryx's precision cell-handling capabilities into Haemonetics' blood processing and surgical product lines.
