Company intelligence / Profile preview
Artemis Pharmaceuticals was a pioneering German biotechnology company focused on functional genomics and the development of sophisticated vertebrate model systems for drug discovery. Founded in 1998 by a team including Nobel laureate Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard and Klaus Rajewsky, the company specialized in creating conditional knockout mice and zebrafish models to validate drug targets. Artemis was acquired by Exelixis in 2001 to bolster its target validation capabilities and was subsequently acquired by Taconic Biosciences in 2007. Today, its technology and expertise are integrated into Taconic's global offerings, providing researchers with advanced genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) and RNAi-based tools.
