Artificial Sensing Instruments (ASI) was a Swiss-based analytical instrumentation company that specialized in high-sensitivity biosensor systems. The company is primarily recognized for developing Optical Waveguide Lightmode Spectroscopy (OWLS), a label-free technology used to monitor molecular interactions in real-time. ASI's instruments allowed researchers to study protein adsorption, lipid bilayer formation, and cell adhesion with extreme precision. Founded as a spin-off from ETH Zurich, the company played a significant role in the advancement of surface science within the life sciences sector. While ASI AG is no longer active, its core OWLS technology was transitioned to MicroVacuum Ltd, which continues to provide these analytical solutions to the global research community.
