Ascension Illinois

Ascension Illinois is the Illinois regional healthcare ministry of Ascension, a large U.S. nonprofit Catholic health system. It provides commercial-stage healthcare services rather than a drug-development pipeline, offering primary care, specialty care, hospital care, emergency medicine, behavioral health, cancer care, women’s health, cardiology, orthopedics, and brain and spine services across the Chicagoland area. Ascension Illinois traces its local roots to 1868 and currently operates a network of providers and care sites in Illinois, with Ascension stating that the region includes nearly 700 providers across more than 146 locations. In 2024 and 2025, Ascension divested a substantial portion of its Illinois hospital portfolio to Prime Healthcare, but Ascension Illinois continues to operate care delivery sites and hospitals in the state under the Ascension brand.
