Company intelligence / Profile preview
Aspect Medical Systems was a U.S. medical device company focused on brain monitoring technologies used during anesthesia and sedation. The company pioneered Bispectral Index (BIS) technology, an EEG-derived monitoring platform designed to help clinicians assess the effects of anesthetics and sedatives on the brain and guide anesthetic dosing. Its products were commercially deployed in operating room and critical care settings and became widely adopted in perioperative monitoring. Aspect Medical Systems was acquired by Covidien in 2009, and the BIS product line later became part of Medtronic following Medtronic's acquisition of Covidien in 2015. The company was not a drug developer; it was a commercial-stage medtech business centered on proprietary monitoring hardware, sensors, and signal-processing algorithms.
