Company intelligence / Profile preview
Atlanta Medical Center (AMC) was a prominent 460-bed teaching hospital and Level 1 trauma center located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Originally established in 1901 as Georgia Baptist Hospital, the institution provided critical healthcare services to the metropolitan area for over 120 years. In 2016, the facility was acquired by Wellstar Health System from Tenet Healthcare as part of a multi-hospital transaction. However, citing hundreds of millions of dollars in financial losses and the need for extensive capital improvements, Wellstar permanently closed the facility on November 1, 2022. The closure significantly impacted the region's emergency and trauma care capacity, leaving only one remaining Level 1 trauma center in the city.
