Atreus Pharmaceuticals was a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company specializing in the development of radiopharmaceutical imaging agents for the detection of cell death. Its lead product candidate, 99mTc-annexin A5, was designed to provide a non-invasive way to visualize apoptosis in real-time, targeting conditions such as myocarditis and monitoring treatment response in cancer patients. The company's technology centered on the use of Annexin V, a protein with a high affinity for phosphatidylserine, which is exposed on the surface of dying cells. Atreus was acquired by Achaogen in 2014 to complement its portfolio of anti-infective treatments with diagnostic tools.
