Atugen

Atugen was a German biotechnology company that pioneered the development of RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutics and gene silencing technologies. Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Berlin, the company developed proprietary platforms including AtuRNAi, which provides chemical stabilization for siRNA molecules, and AtuPLEX, a lipoplex-based system for systemic delivery to the vascular endothelium. Atugen was acquired in 2005 by SR Pharma, which subsequently rebranded as Silence Therapeutics. The company's lead clinical candidate, Atu027, was developed to target Protein kinase N3 for the treatment of advanced solid tumors and pancreatic cancer. Atugen's legacy continues through the ongoing research and development activities of Silence Therapeutics' Berlin operations.
