Company intelligence / Profile preview
AutoImmune Inc. was a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company that pioneered the development of oral tolerance therapies for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Founded in 1988 and based in Lexington, Massachusetts, the company's core technology involved the oral administration of tissue-specific antigens to induce immune system suppression of disease-causing responses. Its most advanced programs included Myloral for multiple sclerosis and Colloral for rheumatoid arthritis, both of which reached Phase 3 clinical trials. Despite significant investment and partnerships with major firms like Teva and Eli Lilly, the company's lead candidates failed to demonstrate sufficient efficacy in late-stage trials. AutoImmune Inc. eventually ceased operations and underwent a formal liquidation process in 2012.
