Autonomy Therapeutics was a biotechnology company focused on developing adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapies for the treatment of sensorineural hearing loss. The company's primary research centered on delivering functional copies of genes such as GJB2 and SLC26A4 to the inner ear to address common forms of congenital and genetic deafness. Founded by F-Prime Capital and led by experienced executives from the otology sector, the company operated in stealth before being acquired by Akouos in 2020. Following the acquisition of Akouos by Eli Lilly in 2023, the programs and intellectual property originally developed by Autonomy have been integrated into Lilly's genetic medicine portfolio.
