Auxolytic

Auxolytic was a private UK biotech developing nutrient-based control switches intended to improve the safety of engineered cell therapies. Its approach used metabolic engineering to create auxotrophic therapeutic cells that depend on an externally supplied nutrient, enabling physicians to shut down the cells by withdrawing that nutrient. The company published foundational preclinical work in Nature Biotechnology showing a transgene-free safety switch based on knockout of uridine monophosphate synthetase in therapeutic cells. The technology was described as applicable across CAR-T, TCR, stem cell, and gene-therapy settings, with in vivo proof-of-concept reported in mouse models. Auxolytic appears to have operated primarily as an early-stage platform company rather than a clinical-stage therapeutics developer.
