Avanta Orthopaedics

Avanta Orthopaedics was a medical device company specializing in the design and manufacture of orthopedic implants for the upper extremities, specifically the hand, wrist, and elbow. Founded in 1994 by Paul Nichols, the company emerged from the acquisition of Sutter Biomedical's small joint division and became a leader in surgeon-innovated extremity solutions. Its portfolio featured advanced products such as the SR MCP and SR PIP finger joint implants and various distal radius fixation systems designed to treat arthritic and traumatic conditions. The company was acquired in 2004 by Small Bone Innovations (SBi), which was later integrated into Stryker's extremities business in 2014.
