Avastra was an Australian medical technology and services company that transitioned from surgical device development to healthcare services. Founded with a focus on biomaterials, the company developed the BioWeld Tube, a laser-activated protein solder designed to facilitate sutureless micro-arterial anastomosis in procedures like breast reconstruction. In 2006, the company pivoted to the sleep medicine sector, rebranding as Avastra Sleep Centres and acquiring a large network of diagnostic facilities across the United States. Despite becoming a major player in the U.S. sleep services market, the company faced financial insolvency and entered voluntary administration in 2009, subsequently selling its core assets to Graymark Healthcare.
