The SNAPvax technology utilizes self-assembling nanoparticles to precisely deliver combinations of antigens and adjuvants to the same antigen-presenting cell, optimizing the induction of robust T-cell responses. The company's primary focus is on oncology, specifically personalized cancer vaccines and treatments for solid tumors, as well as prophylactic vaccines for infectious diseases. In December 2021, Avidea was acquired by Vaccitech (now Barinthus Biotherapeutics) for approximately $40 million to integrate its nanoparticle delivery technology with Vaccitech's viral vector platforms. The acquisition aimed to create a more versatile toolkit for addressing chronic infectious diseases and cancer.
