Axcan Scandipharm

Axcan Scandipharm was a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of therapies for gastrointestinal diseases and cystic fibrosis. The company was established following the 1999 acquisition of Alabama-based Scandipharm by the Canadian firm Axcan Pharma. Its product portfolio featured market-leading treatments such as Ultrase for pancreatic insufficiency and Urso for primary biliary cirrhosis. Axcan Scandipharm also provided specialized nutritional supplements like ADEKs for patients with malabsorption issues. Through a series of subsequent acquisitions, the company's assets were integrated into Aptalis Pharma, which was later acquired by Forest Laboratories and ultimately became part of AbbVie.
