Axonyx

Axonyx was a U.S.-based biopharmaceutical company focused on developing small-molecule therapeutics for central nervous system disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and mild cognitive impairment. Its lead assets included phenserine (Phase III), posiphen (Phase I), and bisnorcymserine/BNC (preclinical). The company licensed core intellectual property from New York University and NIH/NIA, maintained collaborations with these institutions, but did not have commercial products or manufacturing capabilities before being acquired by TorreyPines Therapeutics via a reverse merger completed in October 2006. The combined entity continued under the TorreyPines brand.
