Company intelligence / Profile preview
Azalea Vision has developed a medical-grade smart contact lens platform with an active artificial iris that adapts to light in real time. The ALMA system aims to address severe visual distortions from keratoconus/corneal irregularities and photophobia—conditions not fully addressed by current glasses or contacts. Initial prototypes are complete; first-in-human trials are planned in 2025. Early results show promise for significant improvement in visual acuity without surgery. Additional applications may include biosensing of tear biomarkers and direct ocular drug delivery via the lens system
