Azimuth Biologics is a biotechnology company specializing in the development of next-generation monoclonal antibody therapies for infectious diseases, with a primary focus on Dengue and Zika viruses. Spun off from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2023, the company leverages a proprietary platform to engineer IgA-based antibodies, which offer significant safety advantages over traditional IgG antibodies. Specifically, IgA antibodies do not facilitate antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE)—a condition where antibodies can inadvertently worsen Dengue infections—and do not cross the placenta, making them a safer option for pregnant women. Azimuth's lead programs are currently in pre-clinical development, aiming to address critical unmet needs in global health through innovative prophylactic and therapeutic countermeasures.
