Azwell Inc. was a prominent Japanese healthcare company formed in 1998 through the merger of Nippon Shoji Kaisha and Showa Pharmaceutical. Headquartered in Osaka, the company operated as a major manufacturer and wholesale distributor of ethical pharmaceuticals, diagnostic reagents, and medical devices across Japan. In 2003, Azwell merged with Fukujin Co., Ltd. to establish Alfresa Holdings Corporation, creating one of the largest pharmaceutical distribution and manufacturing consortia in the country. Following a corporate reorganization in 2004, Azwell's manufacturing and research divisions were transitioned into Alfresa Pharma Corporation. The company's historical research portfolio included cardiovascular and metabolic disease programs, alongside the development of specialized surgical instruments and diagnostic systems.
