B.F. Goodrich was a major American industrial corporation that played a foundational role in the development of materials for the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. The company is credited with the invention of plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which revolutionized medical care through the creation of flexible, sterile medical tubing and intravenous bags. Additionally, B.F. Goodrich developed Carbopol, a series of carbomer polymers widely used as excipients, thickening agents, and stabilizers in pharmaceutical topicals and oral suspensions. While the company transitioned to an aerospace focus and was eventually acquired by United Technologies, its chemical innovations continue to be utilized under the Lubrizol Life Science brand.
