Balticgruppen Bio

Betagenon, formerly Balticgruppen Bio AB, was a privately held Swedish biotechnology company developing small molecule activators of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) for chronic metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. The company operated from Umeå, Sweden and focused on disorders linked to impaired energy balance, especially in obese, elderly, and metabolically challenged patients. Its lead program, O304, advanced into Phase 2a clinical development and was positioned for indications including obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, and fatty liver disease. Balticgruppen Bio also received support from the EU Horizon 2020 AMPK-DIAB project. The company was later acquired by Amplifier Therapeutics, and public company-profile sources now describe the acquired entity as closed.
